Flashka 4.16: Case Studies Are Here ๐Ÿฉป

Hey Flashka fam! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Remember Case Studies in alpha?
You loved it, so it's officially here ๐ŸŽ‰

This update is all about putting your knowledge to the test: solve real-world scenarios and get scored, generate study images right inside your chat with Ka, and race your friends on study time too.

Let's dive in ๐Ÿ‘‡

1. Case Studies Are Here ๐Ÿ“š

You voted for it, and now it's out of alpha: solve real-world scenarios and get scored on how you did.

It shines for medical and law students, but it works just as well for business cases, physics and maths problems, biology, and plenty more.

To start one, tap Study now โ†’ Case Studies.

You'll find two modes:

One Shot ๐ŸŽฏ

A single task to solve, no guidance and no hints. Perfect for really putting your knowledge to the test.

Step by Step ๐Ÿชœ

Three questions guided by Prof. Ka. Ka points you in the right direction, but won't solve the case for you.

Images for reference ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

Ka often brings in images to support the case. They're not AI-generated, they're hand-picked from Wikipedia, and if one doesn't fit you can flag it with the report button.

Your results ๐Ÿ“Š

Just like oral exams, you get a clear breakdown of what you nailed and where you went wrong, so you always know exactly where you stand.

2. Ka Can Draw and Create Pics for You Now ๐ŸŽจ

Need a diagram to make something finally click?
Now you can ask Prof. Ka to generate images right inside the chat.

It's perfect for diagrams and visuals that make tricky topics easier to understand. Just ask for it, or tap the suggestion chip, and Ka handles the rest.

Ka can now put together proper diagrams too, not just pictures, so complex ideas are laid out clearly at a glance.

3. Study Time on the Leaderboard โฑ๏ธ

Ready to compete on more than mastery points? Now you can see who's actually putting in the most hours too.

In your study group leaderboard, switch tabs and tap the clock icon to see everyone's study time. And just like mastery points, you can hide yours whenever you like.

4. Study with a Controller ๐ŸŽฎ

Sometimes you just want to lean back and study.
Now you can connect any controller (yes, your PlayStation one counts ๐ŸŽฎ) and flip through your flashcards or Quizzes without touching the keyboard.

Go on Settings>Controller to personalise your key binds

5. Little Fixes & Polish โœจ

We also shipped a bunch of smaller improvements to make everything smoother:

  • Create Oral Exams straight from your flashcards

  • Faster PDF uploads

  • Big images in your flashcards now compress automatically, so cards load faster

  • No more crashes when using Google Translate on the page

  • Editing cards in study mode on the app is fixed

  • A smoother experience between app and web, with mind maps now more reliable for English requests

Flashka 4.15: Leaderboards Are Here ๐Ÿ†

Hey Flashka fam! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Studying on Flashka just got more social, and a lot more competitive ๐Ÿ‘€

This update is all about studying together: leaderboards, mastery points, and two new widgets that bring us one big step closer to your automatic study planner.

Let's dive in ๐Ÿ‘‡

1. Leaderboards in Study Groups ๐Ÿ†

@Kuba (Software Engineer @Flashka) Cooked something spicyโ€ฆ
Open or create a study group and you'll spot a brand new ranking.

Now you can see who's putting in the most work, and go head to head with your friends for the top spot. Your rank is based on mastery points (more on those in a second).

Want to keep your head down?
You can hide the leaderboard, or just your own progress, at any time, and switch it back whenever you like.

And you'll always get a notification when something changes, so you know the moment a friend overtakes you.

2. Mastery Points ๐Ÿ’Ž

Mastery points are the new way to show off your progress to your friends.

While you study, and at the end of every session, you'll see exactly how many points you earned and how your leaderboard spot moved.

That's the short version.
Want the full breakdown of how points work?
Take a deeper look here:
https://flashka.featurebase.app/en/help/articles/6765376-mastery-points

3. Plan Your Studying: Calendar + To-Do Widgets ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ

Flashka is becoming the place where you plan your studying too, not just get it done. So we're adding two new widgets.

With the To-Do list you can add tasks, tag decks, set a date, and make them repeat.
The Calendar does the same, but lays everything out visually so you can see your week at a glance.

Remember that you can personalise your widgets by clicking here:

And this is just the first step towards your automatic planner โ€œwink winkโ€

4. Widgets, Now in the App ๐Ÿ“ฒ

Your widgets just followed you onto mobile, they're live in the Home section of the app.

Tap the button (or a widget itself) to add one, then drag and drop them into whatever order you like.

Everything syncs across web and all your other devices, so your setup is always the same wherever you study.

Shout-out to @Ayelet Wasserman for these amazing widgets!!

Flashka News ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐Ÿ’œ

Here's the exciting bit: your next big feature, Case Studies, is already here to try ๐Ÿ‘€

Just head to Settings > Experimental and toggle Case Studies on.
You'll find them when you study a deck.

It's still in alpha, so expect a few rough edges, any feedback is hugely welcome ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Fancy a chat about it?

Flashka 4.14: Chat with Ka ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Hey Flashka fam! ๐Ÿ‘‹

In the last few weeks we've been working hard on making Ka alive and even smarter.

In fact, you can finally chat with Ka.
But this isn't just another chat like GPT, Gemini, and so on.
It's so much more ๐Ÿฅต

Let's dive in ๐Ÿ‘‡

1. Chat with Ka ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Check your sidebar, you'll spot a new option waiting for you.
Click it and you're in a conversation with Prof. Ka.

Pick Ka's mode ๐ŸŽญ

Ka adapts to what you need:

  • Default: friendly all-rounder for any casual task

  • Tutor: best for explaining your study material in depth

  • Planner: best for planning and organising your studying

  • Editor: best for editing and making your study material more effective

  • Tough Love: ehmโ€ฆwelll

You can also tag specific decks for context, and Ka can search Google, and add photos and documents when it needs to.

Shortcut superpowers โšก

Use shortcuts to make Ka do the heavy lifting:

  1. Generate cards inside specific decks

  2. Make Quizzes

  3. Make Oral Exams

  4. Transcribe audios

  5. Generate Notes, Summaries, etc.

  6. Make MindMaps โœจ (new!)

How much can you use it? ๐Ÿ’œ

Chat is AI-powered, so here's how it works:

  • ๐Ÿ†“ Free: 10 chats per day + credits for AI editing/generation

  • ๐Ÿฆ Beast: 500 chats per month + credits for AI editing/generation

  • ๐Ÿง™ Wizard: unlimited, go wild

2. Ka is Always With You (Mini-Chat) ๐Ÿช„

This is where things get really interesting.

You can summon Ka from anywhere by clicking the icon in the bottom right of any page, or hitting Cmd/Ctrl + J.

Imagine: Ka sees everything on the page you're in, so it always knows the exact context you're working in. Decks, documents, notes, exams, every screen on Flashka, Ka is one shortcut away.

3. What you can actually do with Ka ๐Ÿฅต

Buckle up, here's the list of what it can do:

  • ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Study Plan: build a personalised study plan for any exam, on your timeline

  • ๐ŸŽฏ Weak points: Ka tells you which topics you're struggling with the most

  • ๐Ÿƒ Generate flashcards from your decks, files, or notes

  • โœ๏ธ Edit, rewrite & refine cards: make them longer, shorter, or highlight the keywords

  • ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Add images to your cards

  • ๐Ÿ“ Notes & summaries: summarise any file or set of notes

  • ๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Organise your study space: move decks into folders and colour-code them

  • ๐Ÿงน Create, merge, rename, and tidy up your decks

  • โ“ Set up Quizzes for quick active recall

  • ๐Ÿ’ก Explain anything in simpler terms when you're stuck

  • ๐Ÿง  MindMaps: generate and edit them (soon they'll live inside your deck sources too)

  • + just ask directly Ka what it can do :))

4. Ka, your support too ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Sure, you can use Ka to cheer you up during a mental breakdown (we've all been there ๐Ÿ˜„)

But Ka is also now connected to our customer support. Ask "how do I do X?", report a bug, send us feedback, all without leaving the chat.

5. Oral Exams on the Mobile App ๐Ÿ“ฒ

Big shout-out to @Massimo P for bringing Oral Exams to the apps!
Open any deck on mobile, tap Study, and Oral Exams are right there.

We also squashed a few bugs and shipped some small polish along the way. More improvements coming!

Coming Soon @Flashka ๐Ÿ’œ

Next up, we're iterating on Chat and bringing it to the App too.

And after that?
You decide ๐Ÿซต
Drop a comment with the one you want next:

  1. Leaderboard with friends in Study Groups ๐Ÿ†

  2. Case Studies mode (clinical, law, math exercises, and more) ๐Ÿ“š

Flashka News ๐Ÿ“ฐ๐Ÿ’œ

No big news this time, we're just working hardโ€ฆ so here's some random fun instead:

@Kuba (Software Engineer @Flashka) and Andrea came to visit me and David, hereโ€™s a pic :))

So while we enjoy our time with Kuba, remember you can book a slot to chat with us about Flashka anytime ๐Ÿ‘‡

Sooooo, time to try out Prof. Ka and tell us how it feels!!

And think about itโ€ฆ now that you have Prof. Ka,
why do you need to pay for ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.?
Wink wink ;)
