Hey Flashka fam! 👋

This is the big one
Not "we added a button" big,
5.0 big 🎉

You've always had the tools.

What you never had was something suggesting you what to study today.
So we built it: tell Flashka when your exam is, and it builds your plan all the way to exam day.

And you asked for it, so Flashka is social now too: profiles, followers, leaderboards… 👯

We also rebuilt how Flashka is organised, gave it a voice (yes, sounds 🔊), and added image occlusions in Quizzes👀

Let's dive in 👇

1. Plan Your Exam 🗓️

This is the feature we've wanted to build since day one.

Go to the Study tab and hit Set exam date. Then tell us three things:

1. When your exam is 📅

2. Which tools you want to use: flashcards, quizzes, case studies, oral exams

3. Which days of the week you actually want to study

That's it.
Prof.Ka looks at what's in your set and builds a full plan to get you there prepared.

It bends to your life, not the other way round 🤸

Nothing here is set in stone.
Tap the edit icon and change:

• How many questions your quizzes have

• How many oral exams you do

• How many case studies you do

• How many flashcards you study each day

Change one thing and everything else recalculates around it.

Skipped a day?
Relax.
Your plan rebuilds itself around the days left before your exam. You can also skip a day on purpose with the skip icon, no guilt involved 😌

And your flashcards still follow spaced repetition, so the plan works with your memory rather than against it.

Then every day, just hit Study today's plan and get going.

Set Mastery: see how ready you actually are 🎯

Once you start studying, a new graph appears with three rings:

• Inner ring, Memory 🧠: your flashcard progress, based on spaced repetition

• Middle ring, Quizzes & Exams 📝: your quizzes, oral exams and case studies

• Outer ring, Overall ✨: the average of the two, your big picture

One honest warning about Memory: it can go down 📉

That's the point. Spaced repetition means cards you haven't seen in a while slide back into review, so they stop counting as memorised. It's not Flashka punishing you, it's Flashka telling you the truth about what you'd actually remember tomorrow.

2. A New Architecture: Create and Study 🏗️

Making your study material and actually studying it are two very different moods.
So we split them into two tabs: Create and Study.

Inside Create, everything is on one screen.

On the left, all your sources:

• Documents

• Notes

• Mind maps

• Transcripts (when you have them)

On the right, everything you can make from them:

• Chat with Prof. Ka

• Flashcards

• Quizzes, Exams & Case studies

Once something's created, there's a shortcut to go straight into studying it, and it feeds into your plan over in the Study tab.

Miss the old full-screen view? It's still there.

Just hit the expand button and your flashcards, quizzes and chat go full size like before ⛶

This is one of the biggest changes we've ever made, and it's a signal of where we're heading: not a flashcard tool, but the only study tool you need 💜

Tell us honestly how it feels.

This one matters to us.

3. Flashka Goes Social 👯

Studying alone is fine. Studying with people is better.

So Flashka now has public profiles (thanks to @Kuba (Software Engineer @Flashka))
Add your university and your field of study, and you're on the map 🌍

To find people, tap your profile in the top left and then the find mates button (global search bar works too)
From there you can start following friends, classmates and anyone else worth keeping up with.

Your stats, finally in one place 📊

Your profile shows off everything you've been building:

• Followers and following 👥

• Your longest streak 🔥

• Total mastery points earned 💎

• Total hours studied on Flashka ⏱️

Underneath you'll find your active streak and a heat map of everything you've done. Yes, it's as satisfying to fill in as it sounds 😌

People you might know 🔎

At the bottom, we suggest people worth following: friends of your friends, people from your university, and people studying the same thing as you.

Leaderboards, now everywhere 🏆

Add the Leaderboard widget from your usual widget menu in the home and you get three of them:

1. Friends 👯

2. Your university 🎓

3. Global 🌍

It's also a nice way to spot people to follow.

Notifications 🔔

New follower? Something happening?
There's now a bell on the left with all your notifications, so nothing slips past you.

Your privacy, your call 🔒

Want none of this?

Set yourself to invisible (hidden on search) and no one can see you.
You can change your university and field of study whenever you like.

One important note: Flashka Social is only available if you're 16 or over.

4. Flashka Has Sounds Now 🔊

Admit it, you've thought about this.

Flashka now makes little sounds as you flip, tap and study etc…
And you get to pick the vibe.

Head to Settings and choose your sound pack:

• Zen 🧘 minimal and calm, the default

• Arcade 🕹️ playful, slightly chaotic

• Mechanical ⌨️ bold and clicky

• and a way more to try…

Not your thing?
Turn the volume down, or switch sounds off completely.
No hard feelings :))

4. Little Fixes & Polish ✨

We also shipped a pile of smaller improvements:

• Our new design system keeps rolling out, so you'll spot freshly redesigned bits appearing week by week 🎨

• We're bringing those same pieces to the app, so soon the phone and iPad apps will match web feature for feature, with a full redesign to make everything simpler 📲

• Fixed bugs with decks appearing as empty

You've been asking for this one for a while, and it's finally here: Mindmaps 🎉

We also built a Pomodoro timer right into Flashka, doubled your upload limit, and kept polishing the new look.

Let's dive in 👇

1. Mindmaps Are Here 🧠

Some things just click better when you can see them.
So now you can turn anything you're studying into a mindmap.

Head to the Mindmaps tab (right next to Notes), hit Generate, and pick what to build it from:

• Your document

• Your notes

• Your flashcards

Ka creates it for you, then it's yours to play with. Move things around, change the colours, or regenerate it if you want a fresh take.

See where it came from 🔍

Switch to the source view and every part of your mindmap is highlighted back in your document, colour-coded. So you always know exactly where each branch came from.

And if you'd rather just ask?

Prof. Ka can make one for you straight from the mini chat 💬

2. Study Timer, Built In ⏱️

No more juggling a Pomodoro app in another tab.
It lives in Flashka now.

Click Customise on your Home and add the Study Timer widget. Set your focus time, your short break and your long break, then press start.

You can also pop it into overlay mode so it follows you around wherever you're studying. When the time's up, a little sound lets you know your break has arrived 🔔

Oh, and while we were in there: widgets are now unlimited.
The old limit of three is gone, so build whatever Home you like 🎉

3. Upload Limit Doubled to 100MB 📋

We raised the file limit from 50MB to 100MB, so you can stop compressing your slides just to get them in.

4. Notes in Manual Decks Too 📝

Small change, big deal if you build your decks by hand.

The Source tab now shows up in manual decks as well. So you can write notes next to what you're studying, generate summaries from your flashcards, and keep everything in one place.

A New Look + Drag & Drop 🎨

Spotted the new folders and decks?
You're not imagining it.

We added drag and drop, and we're making Ka smarter every week.

Some of you told us decks and folders were too big, so here's a tip: go to Settings > Appearance and you can now pick between two sizes. Bigger or smaller, your call 👀

Behind all this, we're rebuilding Flashka's entire design system from scratch to make it prettier, easier to use, and finally consistent between web and app.

Huge shout-out to @ayushi and @Massimo P for leading this monster of a project 👏

A whole new look is coming soon.

6. Little Fixes & Polish ✨

We also shipped a pile of smaller improvements:

• Importing decks in study groups works properly now, and deleted cards no longer come back from the dead

• New decks are created in the folder you started from, not thrown onto Home

• Anki exports now keep the same order you see in your flashcards view

This update is all about putting your knowledge to the test: solve real-world scenarios and get scored, generate study images right inside your chat with Ka, and race your friends on study time too.

1. Case Studies Are Here 📚

You voted for it, and now it's out of alpha: solve real-world scenarios and get scored on how you did.

It shines for medical and law students, but it works just as well for business cases, physics and maths problems, biology, and plenty more.

To start one, tap Study now → Case Studies.

You'll find two modes:

One Shot 🎯

A single task to solve, no guidance and no hints. Perfect for really putting your knowledge to the test.

Step by Step 🪜

Three questions guided by Prof. Ka. Ka points you in the right direction, but won't solve the case for you.

Images for reference 🖼️

Ka often brings in images to support the case. They're not AI-generated, they're hand-picked from Wikipedia, and if one doesn't fit you can flag it with the report button.

Your results 📊

Just like oral exams, you get a clear breakdown of what you nailed and where you went wrong, so you always know exactly where you stand.

2. Ka Can Draw and Create Pics for You Now 🎨

Need a diagram to make something finally click?
Now you can ask Prof. Ka to generate images right inside the chat.

It's perfect for diagrams and visuals that make tricky topics easier to understand. Just ask for it, or tap the suggestion chip, and Ka handles the rest.

Ka can now put together proper diagrams too, not just pictures, so complex ideas are laid out clearly at a glance.

3. Study Time on the Leaderboard ⏱️

Ready to compete on more than mastery points? Now you can see who's actually putting in the most hours too.

In your study group leaderboard, switch tabs and tap the clock icon to see everyone's study time. And just like mastery points, you can hide yours whenever you like.

4. Study with a Controller 🎮

Sometimes you just want to lean back and study.
Now you can connect any controller (yes, your PlayStation one counts 🎮) and flip through your flashcards or Quizzes without touching the keyboard.

Go on Settings>Controller to personalise your key binds

5. Little Fixes & Polish ✨

We also shipped a bunch of smaller improvements to make everything smoother:

• Create Oral Exams straight from your flashcards

• Faster PDF uploads

• Big images in your flashcards now compress automatically, so cards load faster

• No more crashes when using Google Translate on the page

• Editing cards in study mode on the app is fixed

• A smoother experience between app and web, with mind maps now more reliable for English requests
